Biography
Professional Career and Education
John Newman has 17 years of Treasury and Banking experience as well as 21 years in Information
Technology. He recently retired from Dominion Resources where he was Assistant Treasurer, Director of
Cash Management. His banking experience was here in Central Virginia with Wells Fargo.
John has had a broad range of responsibility within Dominion and their subsidiary Virginia Power
including cash management, short term investments and financial operations. He has been responsible
for automation efficiencies in Accounts Payable, Remittance Processing, Purchasing/Travel card
programs and Treasury operations. He has led enterprise programs for Protecting Personal Information,
Sarbanes Oxley, PCI Compliance and Risk Management.
John graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree,
Management Information Systems. He also has an Associate Degree in Project Management from
George Washington University School of Business and is a Certified Cash Manager by the Treasury
Management Association.
He is representing District 2 in Cumberland.
Community Service
John has been on the Board of Cumberland Library and was instrumental in keeping the Cumberland Library running after the sudden passing of the Library Director. He volunteers at Delmas Pantry and is on the board of the Cumberland Farm Bureau.
He is the past president of the Commonwealth Association of Financial Professionals, the Virginia EDI Forum and was the Assistant Leader of BSA Troop 800 at Bethel Baptist Church in Midlothian.
Personal
John was born in Richmond and raised in Chesterfield County. He and Robin have four children and six grandchildren.
