Cumberland VA – Cumberland County Fire and EMS has received another public safety grant. The County was recently awarded a Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) grant totaling $47,941.81 during its Fall 2025 application period. This award comes after the County was awarded $252,000 for a new ambulance, during the Spring RSAF grant period.
The grant funding will help Cumberland’s EMS system with the purchase of new stair chairs, a power stretcher, and a LifePak monitor and defibrillator. These items should arrive sometime in March for use by EMS crews. The new ambulance is anticipated to arrive in February 2026.
The Rescue Squad Assistance Fund is administered by the Virginia Department of Health. The financial assistance for Emergency Medical Services Grants Program, known as the Rescue Squads Assistance Fund (RSAF) is a grant program for nonprofit licensed EMS agency or other Virginia emergency medical service organization operating on a nonprofit basis exclusively for the benefit of the general public pursuant to § 32.1-111.12 of the Code of Virginia.
Over the past year, Cumberland County has been successfully awarded a combination of matching and non-matching grant funding and/or received donations totaling $749,736 for public safety improvement efforts.
