The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors is seeking those interested in serving the residents of the county by volunteering to serve on Boards and Commissions.

Board of Zoning Appeals: 

• 1 appointment needed to fill a vacancy and serve an unexpired term through September 14, 2026

The Code of Virginia §15.2-2308 requires that every locality that has enacted a zoning ordinance shall establish a Board of Zoning Appeals.  State Code also designates the Board of Zoning Appeals with the following powers and duties:

• To hear and decide appeals from any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative officer in the administration or enforcement of state code or of any ordinance adopted pursuant to state code
• To grant upon appeal or original application in specific cases of a variance.

 The Board of Zoning Appeals holds regular meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. unless there are no cases pending or other business scheduled in which case no meeting will be held. All meetings are held in the Circuit Courtroom of the Cumberland Courthouse located at 17 Courthouse Circle, Cumberland, Virginia 23040 unless otherwise posted.  Board of Zoning Appeals members are appointed by the Circuit Court upon recommendation by the Board of Supervisors.  Appointments are for five (5) year terms.
